Besides the main trails, hiking to the top of Namunukula mountain is an incredible, off the beaten path experience near Ella. It is much higher and wilder, offering sweeping views without a single tourist in sight.

Another great option is walking along the railway tracks towards Bandarawela through the pine forests. It is flat, shaded, and provides beautiful views of the rural hill country life.
