We are having a massive seafood BBQ on Nilaveli beach tonight. Is it the right moon phase in late April to see the glowing bioluminescent plankton crashing in the waves.

You are in luck! We are approaching the new moon phase, meaning the sky will be very dark tonight. If the ocean water warms up enough during the day, you have a very high chance of seeing the blue glowing plankton along the shoreline just north of Pigeon Island after your BBQ.

Enjoy the BBQ! Make sure you get some fresh cuttlefish grilled in garlic butter. The east coast seafood is phenomenal right now.

If you want to trigger the plankton glow, lightly kick the wet sand at the waterline. The disturbance makes them light up beneath your feet like magic.

I have tried to photograph it so many times but phone cameras rarely capture the blue glow properly. Just put the phone away and enjoy it.
