April is the start of the prime diving season in Trincomalee. The waters around Pigeon Island and the Swami Rock are excellent for beginners. You can expect to see large schools of barracuda, trevally, and various colorful reef fish. The visibility is usually between fifteen to twenty meters during this time. There are several reputable PADI centers right on Nilaveli beach that offer equipment rental and guided dives.
