I am an intermediate surfer. Is the reef at Main Point in Arugam Bay dangerous, and how bad is the localism there.

Main Point is a world-class wave, but it is heavily localized and the reef is razor sharp on the inside section. If you are a true intermediate, you should wear reef booties. Do not paddle straight to the peak. Sit on the shoulder, wait your turn, and absolutely NEVER drop in on a local. If you show respect, they will eventually let you have waves.

Fights in the water do happen if you snake someone. Keep your ego on the beach.

You can also take a tuk-tuk to Peanut Farm. It is much more forgiving for intermediates.

I got a bad reef rash there. Clean any cuts with lime and iodine immediately.

I will bring my booties and stay out of the main pack for the first few days.

If you are intimidated by the reef, just go to Baby Point which is further inside and sweeps over sand.
