I heard some locals paddle out at Main Point during the full moon. Is this safe with the reef, and where is the best full moon beach party afterward.

Night surfing at Main Point happens, but it is strictly for advanced surfers who know the reef blindly. The moonlight reflects off the water beautifully, but judging the steep drops is very tricky. After the session, head over to Mambo or Whisky Point. They throw massive full moon raves right on the sand that go until sunrise.

If you are not comfortable surfing in the dark, just grab some beers and sit on the rocks to watch. The vibe is incredible before everyone hits the clubs.

I did the night surf there once. It is a surreal adrenaline rush, but you absolutely must wear reef booties. You cannot see the urchins when you jump off the board.
