Just got a message from the place offering 15% off if I cancel and book direct. Safe or risky?

Common thing. If the hotel is well reviewed and you're okay with direct payment, often fine and you save money. But keep the booking.com one until direct is confirmed and paid if you're nervous. Some people do it no problem.

Yeah many hotels do this. If the place looks legit and reviews good, usually okay. Just make sure cancellation on platform goes through before paying direct.
