I want to learn how to cook real Sri Lankan food. Do homestay families in Kandy offer hands on cooking classes for guests.

Yes, absolutely! It is one of the best experiences you can have. Most Kandyan homestay mothers are incredibly proud of their recipes. Ask a day in advance. They will often take you to the market to buy fresh coconut and spices, and then let you scrape the coconut and cook the dinner over a wood fire. Offer to pay for the ingredients.

Make sure they teach you how to properly roast the curry powder. It changes everything.

I will definitely ask my host. I really want to learn how to make jackfruit curry.

The kitchen gets very smoky from the firewood, so wear clothes you do not mind washing later.
