The train vendors are heavily regulated by the railway authority and provide a vital service. The hot snacks like roasted peanuts, wade (lentil fritters), and sweet tea are delicious and entirely safe to eat because they are deep-fried at high heat. Just avoid the pre-cut fruit sold in little bags if you have a sensitive stomach.

The prawn wade on the train is amazing. I ate them on the entire journey and my stomach was totally fine.

Carry small change. 50 and 100 rupee notes are best, they rarely have change for a 5000 note.
