Yes the government strictly rigorously enforces a total nationwide ban on the commercial sale and public consumption of alcohol on every single Poya day. Every licensed wine store supermarket liquor aisle and public bar will be completely securely locked and shut.

Even massive luxury five star hotels are legally forbidden from serving alcoholic cocktails or beer in their public dining restaurants or pool bars during the holiday. If you want to drink you absolutely must proactively purchase your beverages the day before and consume them entirely privately inside your own hotel room.
