No alcohol on Poya Days?

I just realized a full moon (Poya day) falls during my beach week. Can I not buy a beer at my hotel?

By law, no establishment (not even 5-star hotels or beach bars) is allowed to sell or serve alcohol on Poya days. Meat sales are also restricted in supermarkets. However, you can buy beer from a "Wine Stores" the day BEFORE Poya and drink it privately in your room.

Just stock up the day before and put it in your hotel mini-fridge. It’s actually a really nice, quiet day. The temples look beautiful lit up at night.
