Can I enter the train station platform without a ticket?

I am meeting my friend at the station, but I am not traveling. Can I go onto the platform to say goodbye?

Yes, you can buy a "platform ticket" for a very small amount (10-20 LKR) at the ticket window. It allows you to enter the platform to meet or see off travelers.

At very busy stations like Fort, they might be stricter, but the platform ticket is the way to go.

Just show your ID if they ask, and buy the ticket. Some smaller stations don't even check for platform tickets.
