I want to see the craftsmen making the intricate temple doors and pillars. Is there a specific village famous for this heritage craft.

Embekke and the surrounding villages are the historic heart of woodcarving in the Kandy region. The Embekke Devalaya itself is a masterpiece of wooden architecture with hundreds of unique carvings. You can find several family workshops in the area where they still use traditional hand tools to create statues and furniture. It is much more authentic than the big showrooms in the city center.
