Can we cut through the Maligawa grounds at 8.40 to skip this wall back to the guesthouse
Hotel is on the far side of the temple complex. The street way is a solid pack. The Maligawa wall is right here and maps shows a path through the grounds that would save us 20 minutes. Temple site says open until 8. Scanner still running? Can we just go in and out the other gate.

No. At 8.40 the Maligawa is past public hours (5.30-8.00) and the grounds are the live return-stage for Pulathisi Raja and the devales. You will meet a scanner, a uniform, and a no. Cutting through a sacred precinct to beat a crowd is how you get a very bad conversation. Walk the inland parallel outside the wall.
Footwear booths, scanners, no shorts, tickets from the machine - that is a morning visit, not a shortcut. Special-needs access is a booked lift from the main entrance, not a through-route.
We tried the "other gate" idea Wednesday. It is not a gate. It is more police tape.
