After leaving a club in Colombo 7, a guy put a snake on my shoulders and demanded 5000 rupees. Is the snake defanged and how do I avoid this.

This is an extortion scam targeting intoxicated tourists. The snakes (usually pythons) are not venomous but are kept in cruel conditions. Firmly say no, step away, and do not let them drape it over you. Threaten to call the tourist police (1912) and they will vanish.

They wait outside Ballys Casino and major clubs. Keep your hands in your pockets when walking out so they cannot physically hand you the snake.
