Is one hour enough or should we dedicate an entire morning to see all the artifacts.

The Colombo National Museum is massive and incredibly dense with historical artifacts. One hour is definitely not enough. You should allocate at least two to three hours to walk through the numerous galleries comfortably without rushing.

The museum covers everything from ancient prehistoric demon masks to the spectacular, jewel encrusted swords and thrones of the Kandyan kings. Arriving right when they open at 9:00 AM ensures you beat the midday heat, as some of the older galleries do not have strong air conditioning.
