Colombo to Galle Sunday - Southern Expressway in the wet or the old coast road so we can bail at a cafe
Rain on the west all week. Friend said the E01 is fine and fast. Another said spray + buses + a 2-hour white knuckle. We are not in a hurry. Is the A2 just 5 hours of puddles.

In rain I still take the expressway. It is bored, cambered, and 90 minutes-ish from Kottawa to Galle if it is moving. The A2 is pretty and slow and the close-pass buses are worse in a downpour. Toll for a car is a real ticket at the plaza - keep cash or a local card. No tuks, no bikes on E01.
Expressway Tuesday, wet, fine, 1 hour 50 from Kottawa. Fort from the Galle exit is another 15.

Scam Watch: colombo
Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
