I carry a large DSLR camera. Do places like Sigiriya or Polonnaruwa charge a separate "photography fee" on top of the entrance ticket?

No, personal photography with a DSLR is included in your standard entrance ticket at all Cultural Triangle sites. However, if you have a massive professional video rig, tripods, and lighting, they might classify it as a commercial shoot which requires a permit from the Film Board.

Just remember that at Sigiriya, photography of the ancient Frescoes (the painted maidens in the cave halfway up) is STRICTLY banned. They will confiscate your memory card if they catch you snapping a pic there.
