I want to photograph the Yapahuwa Rock Fortress. Is it as crowded as Sigiriya, and what is the best time for photos.

Yapahuwa is a massive hidden gem. It has an incredible, steep ornamental stone staircase with famous stone lions, similar to Sigiriya but with almost zero tourists. You will likely have the entire ruins to yourself. The best time for photography is early morning (7 AM) when the sun hits the face of the staircase, highlighting the intricate carvings without harsh shadows.

No, it is very remote. You must negotiate with your driver to wait for you while you climb.

It is stunning. We went at 4 PM and the light was also great, plus we got to watch the sunset from the top.

Is it easy to get a tuk-tuk back to town from there.

The climb is very steep. Wear good shoes, not flip-flops.
