I know it is monsoon season on the south coast. Is the bay still surfable then.

August is technically the monsoon season on the south coast, meaning the ocean is generally rough and blown out. However, Hiriketiya is a deeply recessed horseshoe bay, which heavily protects it from the prevailing winds.

The outer left point break can actually get massive and powerful during the monsoon swells, making it a playground for advanced surfers, but definitely not suitable for intermediates during that time.

Because of this unique geography, Hiriketiya remains surprisingly surfable even in August. The inside beach break is still fun for beginners taking lessons.
