Dress code for Temple of the Tooth (Kandy)? Are white clothes mandatory?
I read that locals wear all white to the Temple of the Tooth. As a tourist, will I be denied entry if I wear a blue maxi dress (covering shoulders and knees)?

White clothes are customary as a sign of purity, but they are NOT mandatory for tourists. As long as your blue maxi dress covers your knees completely and your shoulders/cleavage are covered, you will be allowed in.
Make sure your clothes are not transparent! I saw a tourist get turned away because her skirt was too sheer in the sunlight.
Perfect, I will wear my blue dress but bring a scarf just in case. Thank you!
Also, no hats or caps allowed inside. You will have to leave your shoes at the counter outside, so wear socks if you don't want to walk barefoot on the hot stones.
If you show up and they deem your clothes too revealing, there are vendors right outside the gate selling white sarongs and shawls for very cheap.
