East coast (Arugam Bay/Trinco) vs South coast - which for a relaxed beach holiday?
I want a chill beach vibe for 5-6 days. Should I go east or stick to the south? What's the difference right now?

South coast (Weligama, Hiriketiya, Ahangama) has better infrastructure, more cafes/restaurants, and easier access. East coast (Arugam Bay, Pasikudah, Nilaveli) feels more remote and 'undiscovered', with beautiful empty beaches but fewer facilities and longer transfers. If you want relaxed but with good food and easy logistics, south. If you want pristine and quiet, east - but plan for more travel time.
I preferred the east for the empty beaches and diving. But the south was easier for meeting other travelers.
East coast is stunning in the right season but can feel isolated if you're used to the south's buzz. Many people do both - south for convenience, east for a few days of real peace.
