Elephant Rock surf and finding fresh seafood near Arugam Bay
5 Answers from travellers
Elephant Rock is an amazing point break, but YES, there are crocodiles in the lagoon right behind the beach. Do not wade in the lagoon water; walk over the sand dunes to reach the ocean. For seafood, head back to Arugam Bay main street. Places like Leaf and Vine or any of the beachfront restaurants will grill fresh jumbo prawns and tuna right in front of you.
For the seafood, negotiate the price of the fish by weight BEFORE they put it on the BBQ.
The wave wraps beautifully around the rock. One of the best rights I have surfed.
We saw a massive croc basking on the lagoon bank while walking to the point. Just give them plenty of space.
Do not stay out too late after sunset. Getting a tuk tuk back from that dirt road in the pitch black is tough.
