Elephants turned toward the Maligawa - how long until this street actually reopens
Just now from the Queen's side. The decorated ones are pointing back at the temple, not out. We have a car in the KMC park and a 10pm call we are already going to miss. Is "streets open" 10 minutes after the last elephant or do they keep Dalada pedestrian until late. Apps still dead.

The procession going home is not the all-clear. Police keep the 1.27 km loop and the lake front pedestrian while they unwind. Kumbal is shorter than Randoli but Dalada / lake can stay cones-and-tape into the late evening. Your car in the KMC park is in one of the 13 official parks - it will still be there. Walk. Do not try to drive across the route.
Last night we waited 40 minutes after the last torch for people to move and still could not get a car onto Dalada. William Gopallawa and Old Peradeniya Road are the vehicle corridors they actually want you on.
14 entry-point blocks, 13 parks, season plan through 28 Aug. They do not flip the city back to cars the minute Pulathisi Raja is in the gate. If you need a vehicle, go out to Gopallawa / the railway-station park side, not the lake.
Scam Watch: kandy
TukTuk or tour drivers take you to "gem museums" or "government-certified" gem shops. They receive huge commissions (up to 40%) on anything you buy. Prices are inflated 3-10x the actual value.
Men approach tourists near Temple of the Tooth offering to be guides. After the tour, they demand large "donations" or guide fees (5000-10000 LKR).
