People are offering us sold out train tickets at the station for triple the price. Is it safe.

Train ticket scalping has become a massive issue on the popular Kandy to Ella route. Touts buy up all the reserved seats online and then aggressively approach tourists outside the station, offering the tickets for triple the official price.

It is highly advised not to engage with them. Often, the names on the tickets do not match, and ticket inspectors on the train might invalidate them. If reserved seats are sold out, just buy a cheap unreserved second class ticket directly from the official counter instead of fueling the scam.
