Is it legal to walk on the train tracks to Nine Arch Bridge?
Everyone posts photos walking on the tracks in Ella. Is this actually allowed, or do the police fine you?

In Sri Lanka, walking on the train tracks is technically illegal, BUT it is universally tolerated in Ella and the hill country. Locals use the tracks as footpaths between villages. You will not be fined. Just step off the tracks well in advance when you hear the train horn!
There is a lovely walk from Ella station, through the tunnel, straight to the bridge. It takes about 30 mins. Just watch out for leeches in the grass next to the tracks if it rained.
It is super safe, the trains move at a crawling pace around those bends. You have plenty of time to get out of the way.
