eSIM before arrival or local Dialog SIM at the airport which is better value

For value, a local physical SIM wins easily. A tourist Dialog or Mobitel SIM bought at the airport gives you a big data bundle for a few dollars, far cheaper per GB than any international eSIM, which tends to run 3 to 5 times the local price. You need your passport to register. The airport kiosks are official (not a scam) but slightly pricier than a city store; the convenience of walking out connected is usually worth it.
Dialog has the widest coverage in the hills and remote south. If your trip is hill country and east coast, choose Dialog over the others. Top-ups are everywhere via the MyDialog app or any small shop.
Compromise that worked for me: a cheap 1-day eSIM so I had data the instant I landed, then I bought a local Dialog SIM in the arrivals hall once I was through immigration. Best of both.
One warning: an eSIM keeps your home number active for bank OTP messages. If you swap in a physical SIM as your only line you may miss two-factor codes. I keep the eSIM slot for my home number and the physical SIM for data.
Great, going with a local Dialog SIM at the airport and keeping my eSIM for the home number. Thanks!
