Must-haves: PickMe (ride-hailing, much better than Uber here), Sri Lanka Railways app or 12Go for train tickets, Google Translate with offline Sinhala/Tamil packs, and OsmAnd or Maps.me for offline maps. Also install 'eZ Cash' or 'FriMi' if you want to pay like locals, though cards work fine in most tourist places now.

PickMe was a lifesaver. Also downloaded the 'SLT' app for cheap data top-ups. WhatsApp is essential - everyone uses it for bookings.
