Every socket is the big three-pin and my power bank is 20,000 mAh - will the hotel even have a plug that fits
UK plugs (same shape, thank god) but my US friend has the flat pins. Is Type D actually the only thing. Can we charge a fat power bank overnight or do small guesthouses trip the breaker. Host already mentioned a power bank for Perahera week.

Type D (and some Type G, same family as the UK square pin) is what you see. A UK plug often seats. A US flat pin needs an adaptor - buy two in Colombo, not one. Voltage 230. A 20,000 mAh bank is normal cabin size; keep it in hand luggage on the way home. Old lake houses have few sockets. Ask for a power strip, do not daisy-chain cheap adaptors.
One adaptor, one bank, we survived. Hairdryer killed a guesthouse fuse. Use theirs.
For a CPAP, that is a generator/inverter conversation with the hotel, not a mall adaptor.
