Guys walking on the beach in Nilaveli sold us boat tickets to Pigeon Island to see the sharks. When we got to the boats the navy said the tickets were fake.

Pigeon Island is a protected National Park. You can only buy legitimate entrance tickets from the official Department of Wildlife Conservation counter right at the beach launch point. Never buy tickets from random beach boys.

They scan the barcodes now. The beach boys just print fake tickets on thick paper to fool tourists.

Report the guys who sold it to you to the Navy officers on the beach. They will handle it quickly.

Make sure you hire a boat through your hotel instead. It is much safer and guarantees real tickets.
