First class vs second class on the Kandy to Ella train.
Which class is better for photography and feeling the fresh air during the journey.

Second class is universally considered the absolute best option for the Kandy to Ella train. The windows open completely, and the carriage doors remain open, allowing you to take spectacular, unobstructed photographs and feel the cool mountain air.
First class carriages are heavily air conditioned, meaning the windows are permanently sealed shut. The glass is often dirty or tinted, which completely ruins any chance of taking clear photos of the incredible tea estates.
The only advantage of first class is a guaranteed plush seat and avoiding the sometimes chaotic overcrowding that can happen in the second and third class unreserved sections during public holidays.
