Galle Fort surf spots historic dining and nearby Unawatuna clubbing

There is a small local reef break right outside the Galle Fort walls near the lighthouse, but it is mostly for locals and very shallow. You are better off taking a 15-minute tuk-tuk to Dewata beach for beginner surfing. Inside the fort, Lucky Fort Restaurant is famous for its 10-curry traditional meal. Since the Fort has strict noise curfews, you must take a tuk-tuk to Unawatuna (15 mins away) for the late-night beach raves like Koha Surf Lounge.
If you go to Unawatuna to party, pre-negotiate your tuk-tuk ride back to the Fort at 3 AM. They will try to charge you triple the normal rate.
Dewata beach (Closenberg) is super polluted compared to Weligama. If you are serious about surfing, just base yourself in Unawatuna or Ahangama instead of the Fort.
The food inside Galle Fort is heavily marked up for tourists. Walk just outside the main gate to the local town area for cheap, authentic hoppers and kottu.
Pedlars Inn inside the fort makes amazing gelato. Grab a cone and walk the fort walls at sunset before heading out to drink.
