The Seenigama Devalaya temple is located on a tiny island just off the beach near Hikkaduwa. Can we sit on the mainland beach opposite the temple and meditate before our dawn patrol surf session.

Yes, sitting on the mainland beach facing the island temple at dawn is a deeply peaceful experience and perfectly acceptable. Seenigama is dedicated to Devol Deviyo, a deity protecting fishermen and the community. As long as you are quiet and respectful, meditating there at sunrise before hitting the Hikkaduwa reef is a beautiful local ritual.

Just be aware that some locals visit that specific temple to cast curses on their enemies! It has a very intense, unique energy.

It is stunning at sunrise. Sometimes you can hear the morning chanting drifting across the water from the island.
