Okanda is a very exposed, powerful right hand point break. It is definitely for advanced surfers, especially as the swell is picking up this April. The current sweeps heavily towards the rocks.

Under no circumstances should you enter the Ukanthamalai Murugan Kovil in surf gear. It is a highly sacred pilgrimage site. You must bring a sarong or long trousers, cover your shoulders, and wash your feet before entering.

I went there last season. The contrast between the roaring ocean and the chanting at the temple is surreal. Leave your board with a tuk tuk driver and dress respectfully before crossing over to the shrine.
