It is absolutely not safe to walk between clubs in Ahangama at 2 AM. The stray dog packs become highly territorial at night and will aggressively bark and occasionally nip at people walking alone in the dark. A dog bite is a serious health concern in Sri Lanka due to rabies. Always pay 300 LKR for a tuk-tuk waiting outside the club to drive you safely down the road.

If you are bitten, wash the wound with soap for 15 minutes and go directly to Karapitiya hospital in Galle for free rabies shots.

I walked from Lamana to my hostel once and got surrounded by dogs. It is terrifying in the dark. Take a tuktuk.
