The Indian Ocean off Trincomalee can be quite rough, even during the East Coast season. If you suffer from seasickness, you MUST take motion sickness medication (like Dramamine) at least an hour before boarding. Crucially, do not book a small fiberglass speedboat. Book a larger, multi-deck vessel or a Navy-operated boat, as their weight cuts through the swells much better.

Also, stare straight at the horizon, not at your phone or camera screen, until the whales appear.

Avoid a heavy breakfast before the tour. Stick to plain toast and ginger tea.
