Hidden gem hiking trails to secret waterfalls in Ella hillcountry
4 Answers from travellers
Yes! Hike the path towards Kithal Ella waterfall. It is a hidden gem tucked into the jungle right off the railway tracks, just before the steep hike up Ella Rock. Because it requires a bush hike, tour buses cannot access it. The pool at the base is very calm during the dry season and perfectly safe for a secluded, quiet swim in the hill country.
Bring leech socks! That specific trail is very damp and the leeches are everywhere.
If the water looks brown and muddy, do not swim. It means heavy rain upstream and flash floods could happen.

People outside stations offer to "help" buy tickets but charge large markups. They may buy cheap third-class tickets and sell as more expensive classes.
