Take the hiking path towards Kithal Ella waterfall. It is a true hidden gem tucked into the jungle right off the railway tracks before you ascend Ella Rock. Because it requires a bush hike, tour buses cannot get there. The pool at the base is very calm and usually completely empty, making it a perfect adventure swim.
No, absolutely do not cliff jump anywhere in Ella. The rocks are jagged and hidden just below the water surface.
The water is freezing but so refreshing after walking on the hot train tracks.
Watch out for leeches on that trail! Especially if it rained the night before.
Secret Waterfall (literally the name on maps) is another great one deep in the tea estates nearby.
