Hiking to hidden waterfalls near Ella and tea estates
4 Answers from travellers
Yes! Take the hiking path towards Kithal Ella waterfall. It is a true hidden gem tucked into the jungle right off the railway tracks, just before the steep hike up Ella Rock. Because it requires a short hike through the bush, tour buses cannot access it. The pool at the base is very calm and perfectly safe for a secluded swim.
Kithal Ella sounds exactly like what we want. We will hike it tomorrow morning.
If the water looks brown and muddy, do not swim. It means heavy rain upstream and flash floods could happen.
Bring leech socks! That specific trail is very damp and the leeches are everywhere if it rained the night before.

People outside stations offer to "help" buy tickets but charge large markups. They may buy cheap third-class tickets and sell as more expensive classes.
