Hiking to hidden waterfalls near Ella for an extreme adventure
8 Answers from travellers
Yes, Kithal Ella is the perfect alternative. You reach it by diverting off the main railway track hike towards Ella Rock. The path drops down into thick jungle. It is a smaller cascade but completely secluded. You will likely be the only people there, and the pool at the base is safe for a swim during the dry season.
Watch out for leeches! The path to Kithal Ella is notoriously damp and full of them.
Do not attempt to climb the face of any waterfalls. The black rocks are deadly slippery.
Keep an eye on the water color. If it turns brown, get out immediately. Flash floods happen fast.
Secret Waterfall (that is literally its name on Maps.me) is another great one. Deep in the tea estates.

People outside stations offer to "help" buy tickets but charge large markups. They may buy cheap third-class tickets and sell as more expensive classes.
