We want one reliable driver for our whole trip. How do we find someone trustworthy and what should we expect to pay?

Best way: ask your hotel/guesthouse for recommendations, or use reputable agencies like 'Sri Lanka Driver' or 'Ceylon Tours' that have vetted drivers. Expect to pay 8,000-12,000 LKR per day all-inclusive (fuel, driver accommodation, meals) for a good AC van with an experienced driver. Agree on itinerary and payment terms in writing. Good drivers become like family - many repeat visitors use the same person for years.
Ask for a driver who speaks good English and has done multi-day trips before. Check recent reviews if booking online. A good driver is worth every rupee - they handle everything from traffic to finding good local food.
We had the same driver for 12 days. He became our friend and took us to places we would never have found. Highly recommend investing in a good one.
