The hot air balloon rides look amazing in photos but they're expensive. Is it actually worth it or just a tourist trap?

It's expensive (around $200-250 USD) but the experience is genuinely spectacular if the weather cooperates. You get incredible views over the ancient reservoirs, Sigiriya rock, and the jungle at sunrise. The operators (Sri Lanka Balloon and AirLanka) are professional. Book for a clear day forecast. It's a once-in-a-lifetime thing for most people.

We did it last year. It was magical floating over the reservoirs at dawn. Expensive but I have no regrets. The landing was smooth too.
