Is the hot air balloon ride in the Cultural Triangle worth the $200+ price tag? Do you fly directly over Sigiriya rock?

You do NOT fly directly over Sigiriya Rock (it is a strict no-fly zone for security and conservation reasons). However, you fly over the stunning Kandalama Lake and the surrounding jungles, and you can see Sigiriya clearly in the distance. The sunrise views are breathtaking.

Keep in mind they only operate during the dry season (usually November to April). If you are visiting in July, the flights are grounded due to monsoon winds.

It is expensive, but it was the highlight of our honeymoon. Floating silently over the jungle while watching elephants waking up below was surreal.
