Do we need to book a tour in advance or can we just hire a boat from the beach.

Pigeon Island is located just a short boat ride off the coast of Nilaveli. You do not need to book weeks in advance. You can simply walk down to Nilaveli beach and negotiate a boat ride with the local operators.

The boatmen will take you across, provide snorkeling gear, and arrange your national park entrance tickets right there on the sand. It is very easy to organize.
