Do I need exact change or do they accept large bills or credit cards.

You must absolutely pay with physical cash. Public buses do not accept credit cards or digital payments. You board the bus first, take a seat, and the conductor will eventually walk down the aisle to collect your fare and hand you a tiny printed ticket.

It is highly crucial to carry small denominations like 20, 50, and 100 Rupee notes. If you hand the conductor a 5000 Rupee note for a 100 Rupee fare, they will be extremely frustrated and likely will not have enough change for you.
