Is Galle Fort a half-day trip, or is it worth booking a boutique hotel inside the fort walls for a night?

Staying overnight is highly recommended if you can afford the boutique prices. During the day, it gets very hot and crowded with day-trippers. At night and early morning, the colonial streets empty out, the lanterns come on, and it feels like stepping back 300 years in time.

If you are on a budget, just visit for the afternoon. Walk the ramparts for sunset, grab dinner, and take a 15-minute tuk-tuk back to Unawatuna where accommodation is half the price.
