Is Nine Arch even worth it if the Kandy train is dead?
In Ella 25 Aug. I do not need another sunrise photo essay (already seen those). I want to know if the bridge still has a train to stand under, and whether Little Adam's Peak is a zoo or a mudslide this month.

The bridge is still there and still free. Trains on the restored Nanu Oya/Ambewela-Badulla section still pass. It is not the old five-train-a-day Instagram riot, which some of us like. Ask the guesthouse the day's passing times. Do not climb the side walls. Little Adam's Peak is a short popular walk, slippery after an afternoon dump, fine in the morning. Tuk to the viewpoint about LKR 1,000-2,000 depending on rain and your bargaining. Walk back via the tracks only if locals are doing it and you have common sense.
Went at 7am, one local train, 15 other people, tea-country view intact. Peak took 45 minutes, cloudy, still pretty.
Go early. By 10 the day-trip vans from Nuwara Eliya show up even without the through train.

TukTuk or tour drivers take you to "gem museums" or "government-certified" gem shops. They receive huge commissions (up to 40%) on anything you buy. Prices are inflated 3-10x the actual value.
Men approach tourists near Temple of the Tooth offering to be guides. After the tour, they demand large "donations" or guide fees (5000-10000 LKR).
