Is Trincomalee safe to visit during the winter.
3 Answers from travellers
December is the absolute peak of the northeast monsoon season in Trincomalee. The weather becomes incredibly unpredictable featuring massive heavy torrential downpours and highly severe coastal winds.
The ocean during this time becomes intensely choppy muddy and completely highly dangerous for swimming. Practically all reputable dive centers and boat tours to Pigeon Island completely shut down their operations for safety reasons.
If you are visiting Sri Lanka in the winter between November and March you must absolutely unequivocally focus your beach time entirely on the southern or western coasts like Mirissa or Unawatuna where the ocean is perfectly calm and glassy.
