The National Railway Museum in Kadugannawa is a fantastic, highly underrated stop. The entrance ticket is very cheap, usually costing around 500 Sri Lankan Rupees for foreign tourists, which is less than two USD.

Because it is located right next to the Kadugannawa railway station, it is incredibly easy to visit if you are taking the train from Colombo up to Kandy, or if you are simply driving past the famous mountain pass.

The museum houses an incredible, well preserved collection of antique steam locomotives, vintage wooden carriages, and ancient signaling equipment from the British colonial era.
