I heard there are new rules for booking the blue trains and luxury buses Are the tickets still available at the station

The latest news is that the online booking system for the trains is now much more reliable. However, the rule for second and third class unreserved seats remains the same you must buy them at the counter on the day of travel.

Be careful of people at the station saying the train is cancelled. They just want you to take a private van.

For the luxury buses to the south just use the Makumbura Multimodal Center. It is much more organized than Pettah.
