We are reading Martin Wickramasinghe famous novel and want to take a boat safari to Madol Doova island on Koggala Lake. What birdlife can we see, and how close is it to the Ahangama nightlife.

Madol Doova is an iconic piece of Sri Lankan literary history thanks to Wickramasinghe. Taking a boat safari across Koggala Lake is a beautiful step back in time. You will weave through mangrove tunnels and spot incredible wildlife like Brahminy Kites, Kingfishers, and massive water monitors. The island itself is preserved exactly as it was described in the book.

Make sure your boat stops at Cinnamon Island on the lake too! You can watch the locals historically peeling fresh cinnamon bark the exact same way they have done it for centuries.

The contrast is crazy. You can be exploring quiet, historic mangroves at 4 PM, and by 8 PM you are just a 10-minute tuk-tuk ride away from Ahangama. Clubs like Trax and Lamana are right down the road for underground electronic beats.
